Marvel's X Factor: Venom ft. Tom Hardy

As we - I and my bff - heard about "Venom" for the first time and that Tom Hardy is going to be portraying the main character, we obviously had very high expectations of the back-then yet-to-come movie and the notorious Marvel character; and Tom Hardy being cast as Venom assured us that the movie is going to be on another level in the Marvel universe. Thankfully, after watching the movie we weren't disappointed the slightest; on the contrary, we were pleasantly thrilled and extremely excited from the very first scene till the very end of "Venom".
As the movie starts, we're slowly introduced to the main character, Eddie Brock, who is a journalist trying to present the audience with authentic stories and genuine viewpoints of multiple incidents and various cases that take place in the city; and his dedication, authenticity and unbound willingness to seek the truth is what makes him one of the top journalists - and an endearing persona as well who can't be swayed by other intriguing factors or personal interests. Brock is presented as the dedicated character who is enjoying the excitement that his job brings which prompts him to try and conquer untouched areas when his boss asks him to interview Carlton Drake who is the founder of the "Life Foundation" and whose ambitions and dreams have consumed him way too much and pushed him to commit unforgivable sins.

Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock

From the first scene of Carlton Drake, a villainous aura enveloped him as he turned out to be turning into the one thing he was preaching against: consumption. He kept on stating that the world is ending because of what the human beings have done which is consuming its resources and taking benefit of every natural and available asset on earth with no intention of giving back to earth what it deserves and needs to survive - a resemblance to the real life status of planet earth that's indeed approaching its end in the upcoming decades. Drake is, ironically, transformed into a consuming character who can't tell the difference between good and bad; he's simply led by his wild dreams and aspirations regardless of their outcomes and the consequences; he's consuming the power he has achieved and is consumed by it!

Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake

On the other side of the equation, Eddie Brock is a normal human who wants to achieve more and bring more - of the truth - to the spotlight; and when his boss imposes on him to interview Drake, he's disturbed by the fact that this young and powerful businessman is - unofficially - surrounded by piles of dead bodies and is devouring the weak for his own sake and greed. However, Brock doesn't think twice before trying to expose Drake when he finds out that he's preying on the weak and the helpless in order to achieve some of his aspirations, and is also not willing to pay for what he commits or even admit the fact that he's turning his passion into a lunatic purpose encased in the role of saving humanity and the planet. Yet what Brock tried to do by exposing Drake - without enough meticulous thinking - has caused him to lose the important things in his life: his love and his job. Brock gets abandoned by his fiancee, Anne Weying, upon his untimely use of the vital information he acquired through her unconscious assistance and from the start of the movie they're, unfortunately, pulled apart!

After trying to stand up to Carlton Drake on his own and from his humble position, he's countered with severe consequences and is left with no hope of restoring his old life. Nevertheless, hope emerges from the darkest of places for Brock at the time: the "Life Foundation". When he realises that he's being left with nothing to lose, the journalist determines to take down Drake by exposing the main motto of the young businessman: End Justifies the Means. Yet he who thought that benefiting from the weakness of people and taking advantage of their helplessness is about to face the ultimate contender when "Venom" merges with Eddie Brock.

Venom

When "Venom" is transferred to Brock, it's a different stage of the story. This alien being has been searching for the right host who needs to be not only physically and mentally capable, but both of them must have this chemistry that makes coexistence possible as the two live beings are managing to let go of some of their egos and preferences in order to mutually survive! Still Brock and "Venom" don't really take off their bond on good terms; quite the opposite, at some point it's revealed that "Venom" is, somehow, feeding on Brock's inner soul and is trying to control him and when he tries to prove his good will and assures the hero that both of them are on the same page, it's too late because Brock abandons Venom and leaves. At the start of their relationship, Venom thinks that Brock is too weak to decide what should be done and that's why Venom sticks with the idea of bringing his mates to conquer earth. The equation between Brock and Venom, luckily, changes as the two of them realize that it's a partnership and a mutual cooperation which they need in order to reach the goal and save the planet.

Eddie Brock & Venom

The performance of Tom Hardy is indeed brilliant and diverse which is not something new to him as an actor and performer; he's drawn so many die-hard fans because of his unique style and criterion of choosing his roles and the characters he decides to revive. Tom Hardy is simply unique! It's a very enjoyable experience watching "Venom" over and over again as the bond between the two main protagonists - Brock and the "PARASITE" - revolves severely around what should and should not be exerted to prevent worse from happening; I just personally hoped that more time span was given to the Brock/Venom relationship in order to fully comprehend why Venom abandoned his people for Brock's sake - other than the fact that Venom has realized that bringing his mates to take over Earth is not the righteous decision to make, he stated that Brock is the one who made him change his mind and that's why more focus should have been given to exploring the gradually evolving dynamic between Eddie Brock and Venom. And of course Riz Ahmed is undoubtedly one of the best villains in the Marvel universe simply because a) Carlton Drake is not essentially a deeply-rooted evil soul; he just got carried away by his diligent attempts to accomplish his visions and took the wrong route as a result; b) Riz Ahmed may not be the expected actor to play an antagonist - my sibling said that he looks too kind to be playing Drake - and that's perhaps the very same reason why he excelled in portraying Carlton Drake because Ahmed managed to convey how Drake's unfathomable determination to succeed is indeed evil.

The union of Venom and Eddie Brock makes them one entity and together they pose a greater threat because of the double standards they have; the questionable ethicality of Venom makes it hard to predict its actions and decisions which is what's needed exactly to face the bad and the villainy. The last line in the movie says "we are Venom" thus indicating that they're one person with double countermeasures; it's palpable truth that sometimes rules have to be bent to make good prevail and with the aid of Eddie Brock, Venom is going to be able to channel his powers in the rightful directions.
