Extraction: Chris Hemsworth is The Long-lost Solid Action Protagonist
Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth |
In a long time I haven't been able to find this interesting, classically created action movie that would truly derive its own review from me as a die-hard fan of the action genres. However after watching "Extraction", starring Chris Hemsworth and Randeep Hooda, finally I've managed to find one of the best action movies of the year. "Extraction" is simply the ACTION-PACKED traditional story - in a new facade - you've been looking for. It's an incredibly powerful and intense journey that you'll surely enjoy.
The top action movies in the past few years haven't been able to surpass the realm of the sci-fi and superheroes - such as the movies and franchises of Marvel and DC Comics; and the other options you've got left are the extremely overwhelming, massively masculine, movies such as the successful John Wick franchise - which for me personally, with the final release, is starting to palpably deviate and miss the point of the really good and full-fledged action film aimed at various audiences, by incorporating way too much action, plot sophistication and intensity that don't allow the spectator to even think about or comprehend what's happening on the screen.
Tyler Rake & Ovi Mahajan |
"Extraction" is indeed an optimal opportunity to explore more of Chris Hemsworth as an actor. Previously whenever I used to watch other movies of him, it always lurked in my head that he can't emerge, more specifically detach himself, from the role of Thor - in the Marvel Universe - which got him super popular. And that's why if you ask me what's my favourite movie of Chris Hemsworth, I'll probably won't have an answer, till now! Currently this simple action movie is not only one of the best action titles in 2020, but it's also one of the best roles portrayed by Hemsworth. This movie sets Chris Hemsworth to be the solid action actor in the next couple of years.
Chris Hemsworth is The Action Hero of 2020 |
At the beginning, I felt a little bit all over the place as I didn't fully grasp what kind of a mercenary
Chris Hemsworth & Randeep Hooda |
The swiftness of "Tyler" combined with the very realistic and meticulously executed action scenes, fights and running throughout the movie make it one of the solid action productions that has been released lately. Then we are left with Randeep Hooda and Rudhraksh Jaiswal - who play Saju and Ovi - to intensify the scenes even further. Saju - Randeep Hooda - is doing his best to retrieve the kid and save his family, and whilst trying to accomplish his mission, the character comes off raw, fierce and outstanding in a way that exceeds the expectations that might have been put for it at the beginning of the storyline.
Tyler & Ovi Form a Strong Bond by the End of the Movie |
Ovi, on the other hand, forms an emotional connection with Tyler easily because both of them seem to understand each other better than they imagined. Tyler who lost his child and doesn't have a family anymore refuses to let go of Ovi before he's 100% sure of his safety. Ovi is missing - and kind of loathing - his father who's in jail because he's a drug dealer and a gangster who kills others and destroys families in the blink of an eye. That's why it's easy for both of them to form a sentimental relation. Tyler wasn't there with his 6 year old son when he died; he voluntarily left him. Consequently he is trying to redeem himself in an way possible by helping Ovi get back home safe. And whilst Ovi is aware that his father isn't the kind of parent he hopes for, his relationship with Tyler can somehow provide a sense of stability, mutuality, maturity and understanding any teenager looks for.
The way that Hemsworth portrays this mercenary in the movie isn't super original, he just gives the character the right amount of humanity that makes Tyler relatable - regardless of his past. This mercenary can't help but project his own life experiences and his major past trauma onto this young teenager he's helping, Ovi. He's trying to achieve what he couldn't in the past. By the end of the movie, and even though I didn't expect the ending of the main character, there was this floating satisfying feeling that there's something missing; it's like knowing internally that the end is not actually the end!
